Betty Jean Whitlow, 89 and of McLeansboro, Ill. passed away at 9:18 p.m. on Wednesday, March 27, 2024 at The Silver Foxes Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, McLeansboro. Betty was born October 16, 1934 in Norris City, Ill. to Albert and Genevieve Mae ( Boyd ) Bryant.

Visitation will be held Monday, April 1, 2024 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at Harre Funeral Home, McLeansboro with graveside services to follow at 12:00 Noon at Brush Harbor Cemetery. Pastor Rick Floyd will officiate the service.

Margaret Lovan, formerly of Hamilton County

Margaret Rosalie Lovan, formerly of Hamilton County Ill., passed away on December 29, 2023 at the age of 96. Rosalie Lovan was born on July 27, 1927 in Hamilton County. Her parents were Gifford and Euna Nelson.

Graveside Services will be held April 3, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at Oddfellows Cemetery, McLeansboro, Ill. under the assistance of Harre Funeral Home, McLeansboro.

Dorothy Sanders, McLeansboro

Dorothy Lea Sanders, 91 of McLeansboro, passed away Friday, March 15, 2024 at Hamilton Memorial Hospital surrounded by her family. Dorothy was a member of Webb’s Chapel in McLeansboro. The only daughter of Paul and Maggie (Van Winkle) Flannigan, she was born on January 8, 1933 in Norris City Ill.

Graveside services only will be held Tuesday March 19 at 1 p.m. at Prospect Cemetery with pastor Mike Johnsy officiating. Harre Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Saint Jude’s Children's Hospital.

Bonnie Mae Webb, 89 of McLeansboro, Ill., passed away at 8:55 p.m., Sunday, February 25, 2024 at Hamilton Memorial Hospital in McLeansboro. Bonnie was born in Burnt Prairie Township in White County to Benjamin Christopher Winter and Mamie Berniece (Byrne) Winter.

Visitation is at 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon Friday, March 1, 2024 at Harre Funeral Home, McLeansboro. Funeral services follow at 12:00 noon Friday, March 1 with burial in Blooming Grove Cemetery, McLeansboro. Pastor Roger Turner will officiate the service.

William Luffman, Sr., McLeansboro

William E. Luffman, Sr. “Elroy”, 84 of McLeansboro, Ill., passed away at 9:17 a.m., Wednesday, February 21, 2024 at White Oak Rehabilitation Center in Mt. Vernon, Ill. William was born November 19, 1939 in Bumpus Mills, Tennessee to Willie Raymond Luffman and Eddie Anna (Massey) Luffman.

Louise Campbell, 83 of McLeansboro, Ill., passed away at 10:05 p.m. Tuesday, February 13, 2024 at Hamilton Memorial Hospital, McLeansboro. She was born in McLeansboro September 22, 1940 and was the daughter of Floyd and Helen (Faulkner) Prince.

Mary Ann Pearson, 74 of McLeansboro, Ill., passed away at 7:05 a.m., Monday, February 12, 2024 at Deaconess Gateway Hospital in Newburgh, Indiana. Mary was born July 17, 1949 to Emery Vernon Frazier and May Roaslie (Scott) in Mt. Vernon, Ill.

A visitation will be held at 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon Saturday, February 17, 2024 at Harre Funeral Home, McLeansboro, with Funeral Services following at 12:00 noon. Burial will be in Olive Branch (Baltimore) Cemetery, Wayne City, Ill. Pastor Andy May will officiate the Service.

Hobert Johnson Campbell, Jr.

Hobert Campbell, Jr., 85 of Macedonia, Ill., passed away at 12:20 p.m.Thursday, February 1, 2024 at the Silver Foxes Senior Living & Rehab Center in McLeansboro. Hobert was born March 29, 1938 in Franklin County, Ill. to Hobert Johnson Campbell, Sr. and Mary Victoria (Nagreski) Campbell.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, February 7, 2024 at Harre Funeral Home, McLeansboro. Pastor Jacob Gray officiated and burial was in Macedonia Cemetery, in Macedonia. Military Rites by American Legion Post 106 and Military Honor Team of Marion, Ill. were accorded. Masonic Rites were also accorded by the Macedonia Masonic Lodge # 1128 and the Macedonia Eastern Star Chapter 1028.

Estell Hunter, McLeansboro

Estell Hunter, 89 of McLeansboro, Ill., passed away at Hamilton Memorial Hospital, McLeansboro, Ill. on Friday, January 26, 2024. Estell was born February 17, 1934 in Sneedville, Tenn. to William Moles & Nellie (Barnard ) Moles.

In accordance with her wishes, a graveside service for family and close friends will be held at Blooming Grove Cemetery on Friday February 2 at 11a.m. followed by a meal for the family at the home of her brother Willie Moles. Harre Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Dean Allen French, age 85 and a resident of McLeansboro, Ill., passed away at 2:30 a.m., Friday, December 22, 2023 at his residence in McLeansboro. Dean was born January 27, 1938 in McLeansboro to Paul and Hallie Mae (Allen) French.

Paul Leo Wellen, 89 of Piopolis, Ill. went to be with the Lord on December 15, 2023 in his home surrounded by his family. Paul was a lifelong member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. Paul was born March 23, 1934 in Belle City, Ill., the son of Andrew and Isabella (Karcher) Wellen.

Visitation will be held at Harre Funeral Home, McLeansboro, IL from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 19, 2023 and a Rosary Service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held Wednesday morning, December 20 at 10:30 a.m. at St. John Baptist Catholic Church, Piopolis with Father Slawomir Ptak officiating and Burial will be held in St. John Baptist Catholic Cemetery.

Wilma Willis, 90 of McLeansboro, Ill. , passed away at 7:45 a.m., Thursday, December 7, 2023 at The Silver Foxes Senior Living & Rehab Center in McLeansboro. Wilma was born July 21, 1933 in McLeansboro to Alva Bennett and Freda (Smith) Bennett.

Visitation Services will be held 1 – 3 p.m., Sunday, December 10, 2023 at Ten Mile Baptist Church with the Funeral Service at 3 p.m. Pastor Jacob Gray will officiate the service and burial will be in Ten Mile Cemetery.

Rolla Joe Trout, McLeansboro

Rolla Joe Trout, 70 of McLeansboro, Ill. passed away Tuesday, November 28, 2023 as the result of an automobile accident. Joe was born in McLeansboro to James R. and Marguerite (Mendenhall) Trout.

Charles David Winfree, 88 of Carmi, IL, formerly from Enfield and McLeansboro, Ill. passed away 8:00 p.m., Saturday, November 25, 2023 at Deaconess Hospital in Henderson, Kentucky. David was born November 23, 1935 in McLeansboro, IL to Charles Raymond, D.D.S. nd Laura Alice (Dillon) Winfree.

Randy Stover, Benton

Randy Stover, 65 years of age and a resident of Benton, Ill., passed away Thursday, November 9, 2023 in Phoenix, Arizona. Randy was born September 26, 1958 in McLeansboro, Ill. to Danny Paul and Martha Ann (Robertson) Stover.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are requested for the medical expenses of the members of the Ten Mile Missionary Baptist Church missions team who were injured on the mission trip with Randy. The memorials should be made to Ten Mile Missionary Baptist Church and will be accepted by the church.

Visitation service will be held 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., Friday, November 17, 2023 at Ten Mile Missionary Baptist Church, McLeansboro, Ill. and the funeral service will begin at 3:00 p.m. at the church with Pastor Jacob Gray officiating. Rosemarie Maloney, fortified with the sacraments of Holy Mother Church, October 7, 2023. She was born September 18, 1947 in St. Louis, Missouri to the late Paul and Rose (Rocchio) Maloney.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 12, at Harre Funeral Home in Dahlgren, Ill. from 4-8 p.m. with the recitation of the rosary at 7:30 p.m. The funeral Mass will be held on Friday, October 13, at 11:00 a.m. at Saint John Nepomucene Catholic Church in Dahlgren with burial immediately following in the church cemetery

Michie Sablan, 89, passed away at 11:22 p.m., Saturday, September 30, 2023 at SSM Good Samaritan Hospital, Mt. Vernon, Ill. She was born May 28, 1934, in Ishinomaki, Japan, the youngest of 9 children.

Myrna McGill, 94 of McLeansboro, Ill., passed away at 2:24 a.m., September 28, 2023 at Hamilton Memorial Hospital in McLeansboro. Myrna was born January 8, 1929 in Knights Prairie Township to Fritz and Irene (Sheley) Gunter.

Visitation will be 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Sunday, October 1, 2023 at Harre Funeral Home, McLeansboro. Funeral Service is 11:00 a.m. on Monday, October 2, 2023 at Harre Funeral Home. Dr. Reverend Ken Cook will officiate the service, followed by burial in Pleasant Grove Cemetery, McLeansboro.

David Allen Golden

David Allen Golden, 64 of McLeansboro, Ill., passed away Wednesday, September 20, 2023. David was born October 19, 1958 in Torence, Calif. to Everett Golden and Mary (Fischer) Golden.

Visitation hours will be held for the public from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Saturday, September 30, 2023 at Freedom Baptist Church, McLeansboro. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Sunday, October 1, 2023 also at Freedom Baptist Church, with Pastor Jason Moore officiating.

Interment of Ashes will be conducted at I.O.O.F. Cemetery, County Rd. 200 East, Norris City, Ill. with Harre Funeral Home, McLeansboro in charge of arrangements. Graveside Military Rites will be conducted by the U.S. Army Military Honor Team of Marion, Ill.; The American Legion Post 224 and VFW Post 3851 of Carmi, Ill. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in David’s honor to the Veterans Association. A reception will follow at Freedom Baptist Church for family and friends.

Phyllis Jean (Pemberton) Greer

Phyllis Jean Pemberton Greer, 94 of Evansville, Ind., passed away on Wednesday, August 23, 2023, at River Pointe Health Campus. She was born on June 2, 1929, in McLeansboro, IL, the daughter of Russell and Lula Mae (Elder) Pemberton.

Upon her wishes, Phyllis requested cremation. A Memorial Service will be held at Grand Avenue Christian Church, 1305 E. Grand Ave Carbondale, Ill., on Saturday, September 30, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. with visitation at 10:00 a.m. at the church. Reverends Matt Proctor and Jerry Kizzire will officiate. A graveside interment of ashes will be planned for a later date at I. O. O. F. Cemetery in McLeansboro, IL.

Gary Cox, Tennessee

Gary L Cox, 76 of Townsend, Tenn., passed away on Saturday, August 26, 2023. Gary was born on April 22, 1947, in Ottawa, Ill., only child of Elizabeth K (Pomatto) and Luther H Cox.

There will be a visitation at 10 a.m., and funeral at 11 a.m. on Saturday, September 2, 2023 at Harre Funeral Home in McLeansboro, Ill. There will also be a memorial service on Saturday, September 9, 2023 at 2 p.m. at Maryville Church of Christ in Maryville, Tenn.

Roy Lewis Gibbs, 92 and a resident of Silver Foxes Senior Living and Rehabilitation Center, passed away at 4:07 p.m., Wednesday, August 16, 2023 at the center in McLeansboro, Ill. Roy was born July 28, 1931 to Cyrus Gibbs and Elsie Elma (McClure) Gibbs in Dahlgren, Ill.

Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., Sunday, August 20, 2023 at Harre Funeral Home in McLeansboro with the Funeral Service held at 1:00 p.m. with Reverend Leland Widick officiating the Services. Burial will be in Union Cemetery, near Dahlgren, IL.

Scott Dale Van Winkle, age 53 and resident of McLeansboro, Ill., passed away at 5:17 p.m., August 11, 2023 at Hamilton Memorial Hospital, McLeansboro, Ill.

Scott was born July 1, 1970 in Mt. Vernon, IL to Penny and Linda (Gassaway) Van Winkle.

Gerald Ray Launius, age 78 and resident of McLeansboro, Ill. passed away at 6:17 p.m. Monday, July 31, 2023 at St. Vincent’s Hospital, Evansville, Indiana. Jerry was born February 4, 1945 in Eldorado, Ill. at Ferrell Hospital to Ernest Carl and Helen Gray (Douglass) Launius.

Bobby Deon Carter, age 84 and a resident of Galatia, Illinois, passed away at Deaconess Gateway Hospital in Newburgh, Indiana on July 10, 2023. Bobby was born November 27, 1938 in Galatia, IL (Saline County) to Herman Taylor Carter and Agnes Allie Lucresia (Logan).

Timothy “Tim” Wayne Oxford, 66, of McLeansboro, Ill., went to be with the Lord on July 12, 2023, at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, Mo. He was born on December 29, 1956, to Herbert Jr. and Faye (Austin) Oxford in Evansville, Ind.

Clifford Leon Glenn, 69 of Opdyke, Ill., passed away at his residence on Wednesday, May 31, 2023. Clifford was born December 8, 1953 in Carmi, Ill. to Marion Reed Glenn and Violet Fern (Hamson).

Clyde Smith, formerly of McLeansboro

Clyde Everett Smith, 90, passed away at 9:30 p.m., Friday, May 26, 2023 at St. Andrews @ Francis Place in Eureka, Missouri. Clyde was a resident of House Springs, Missouri and formerly a resident of McLeansboro, Ill. Clyde was born February 18, 1933 in Hamilton County, Ill. to Elbert Smith and Ella Myrtle (Goffinett) Smith.

Graveside burial services were held Tuesday, May 30, 2023 in Old Springer Cemetery near Blairsville. A Military Honor Service was held by the Military Honor Team of Marion, IL and American Legion Post 106 of McLeansboro, Ill. There was also a Masonic Service held by the Enfield Masonic Lodge #677 and Clyde was a member of Scottish Rite Valley of Southern IL and Ainad Temple Shriners.

Catherine Rose Spradlin, 77 of Dahlgren, Ill., passed away at 5:20 a.m., Sunday, May 21, 2023. Catherine was born December 16, 1945 in Belle Rive, Ill. to Columbus “Doc” Clark and Verdie Faye King.

Delores was born July 19, 1936 in Russell, Kansas to Carroll J. Erwin and Mary Louise (Meeks) Erwin.

Well-known Carmi businessman, Samuel L. Endicott, passed away on October 9, 2019 at the age of 96. Sam was born on January 11, 1923 to Dale and Cora (Hon) Endicott. He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Martha G. Endicott.
