Very excited and tremendously grateful to have the opportunity to join the Bradenton Police Department as a civilian PIO and Digital Media Specialist. It's been a long road to transition from TV to Law Enforcement, and I'm thrilled with the new role and my new BPD family. Being the interviewee and not the interviewer might take some getting used to! #OneCityOneTeam

Well, well, well... I get here, give you a hug one day, and off you go! You're amazing the way you keep pivoting. Truly, a woman of all trades. I hope we get to see each other again soon. We're what? 1/2 hour apart? Congrats!

It might take adjusting being the interviewee now, but this way the other party is the one on deadline, not you! Congrats. I await your future post about your move from PIO to CSI.

I never remember seeing a female law enforcement officer growing up. (Surprisingly, I know, considering I'm very, very young.) I'm so glad that's changed, and I'm surrounded by a diverse group of strong, kind, smart and badass women including Detective and K9 Handler Moyett, Detective Nichols, Officer McNeal, and Detective Craddock.

I really enjoyed this Social Media Summit for First Responders panel discussion on branding and messaging for large and small public safety organizations. Whether you have few resources or many, the goal is the same: inform our communities, earn the public's trust, and highlight the work first responders do 24/7/365. I hope sharing my successes gave other one-man-band PIOS some ideas for their toolkit.

Thank you to iHeartMedia's Beyond The News podcast for speaking with me about BPD's investigation into the shark expert charged with diverting more than $300,000 meant for marine biology research into her personal bank accounts. I hope the American Elasmobranch Society can recover and continue its important research and conservation efforts. Great work, Det. Carpenter! https://lnkd.in/eF-k6uwS

With less than four days' notice, BPD devised an ops plan to safely escort the Budweiser Clydesdales to three different stops (during Friday rush-hour traffic), inform the public about the visit, and keep all two and four-legged participants and spectators safe. It wasn't a time for horsing around, so we reigned in the team, and the impromptu attraction went off without a hitch!

Learn how I grew the Bradenton Police Department's social media presence by 5,200% in just over a year by applying a newsroom mentality. I'm participating in the panel, "Brand-Building for Agencies Small and Large: Community Building and Brand Awareness with Limited Resources" at the Social Media Strategies Summit for First Responders, April 10-11. I'm looking forward to learning best practices from other PIOs from large and small agencies. Join us! https://lnkd.in/egztySAF

I'm so proud of Bradenton PD's officers, dispatch, and the unarmed security guard at HCA Blake Hospital. After healthcare employees and patients observed a woman appearing to load a gun and/or magazine with bullets, a 911 call was placed, the security guard approached and calmly moved the weapon, and BPD entered from multiple angles. The entire incident, from 911 call to arrest, took 8 minutes. A semi-automatic handgun, high-capacity drum magazine, two additional magazines and loose bullets were in the woman's purse. https://lnkd.in/gpbQ6Dmv

After more than two decades of working as a TV reporter and anchor I don't get nervous about much - except for this! TV is my job, but CSI is my passion ... and I really didn't want to look like a fool in front of working or former forensic investigators! Feedback has been positive, so I am glad I didn't screw up fingerprint 101. :) Also, my Henry Lee magnifying glass is a prized possession - glad I could take it off your hands Kevin Lothridge! 🔍
